12" (September 1980)

Typography: Peter Saville
Photography: Charles Meecham

Sleeve history: in January 1980 Tony Wilson and Daniel Meadows made a film about two photographers, Charles Meecham and Chris Killip. In the section on Charles Meecham, Daniel Meadows interviewed him while he was photographing in Pennine woodland near Hebden Bridge following a fall of snow. When the programme was screened, Tony Wilson watched it live in the company of some members of Joy Division who expressed a liking for Charles Meecham's picture and, in due course, it was used as the cover for the 12" single of Atmosphere
